The book isn't filled with blatant flattery of the city. Although he clearly states that Paris is the greatest city in the world in which to write, his accounts include a number of less-than-flattering scenarios.
But just like a great dark comedy, the grim adds color to the context that draws you in further.
And of course the book highlights so much to love of Paris for all of the usual reasons. The art, the beauty, the food, the wine, the way of living.
Feast not only helped bring Paris further to life in advance of our upcoming trip, but it also motivates me to read more Hemingway, and the writers of his time and acquaintance.
