I just finished re-reading The Odyssey, and just like with The Iliad, I tremendously enjoyed the book.
And one new lesson, the translation really, really matters. This version by Emily Wilson was incredible, far more interesting and enjoyable than any other Homer translation I've read.
Her language was perhaps more modern, without a hint of stuffiness or scholarly pretense. Every page of every chapter was a joy to read and I ripped through it, the archetypal page-turner.
With this Homer as background I'm now moving on to a deep examination of Greek mythology, a topic I've barely dabbled in to date.
