I'm certain that I was supposed to read this in high school. And I'm almost as certain that I read the Cliff Notes instead. And I probably didn't even read the Notes all of the way through.
I'm making up for that by reading Grapes as one of the final books before I dive headlong into WWII.
The story is embedded into our culture. The details of the story are not surprising, but as anticipated, they add depth and color to the real human struggle of the Great Depression.
I'm enjoying it more than most modern classics.
But I can't stop thinking about just how close I am to diving into WWII. I'm building out my list of books each day, making a plan for how to best absorb such a huge event.
