As with Frederick Lewis Allen's earlier book on the 1920s, this book provided a varied perspective on the decade.
Of course he covers the expected events, centering on the stock market crash and the impact and slow recovery from the Great Depression.
But once again the unexpected delights paint a picture you wouldn't see in most other history books. It reads more like a "current events" from a local newspaper than a traditional history book.
And with its close I feel myself on the verge of WWII. Just a few more books to go.
