History of the Peloponnesian War by Thucydides

With all of the pre-study that led to my re-reading of Thucydides, the book itself has been a joy.  With the exception of certain sections of unnecessarily detailed battle narrative, followed by more battles, and more battles, I've enjoyed every page.

And this time around I feel as though I truly understand the context of the war, its causes, and its effects both during and after the war.

Now I look forward to doing the same for the last years of the war and the decades that follow with an author of which I've read little: Xenophon.  Of course starting with the Cambridge Companion and moving on from there.
