Long, immeasurable time brings everything hidden to light and hides what is apparent.  Nothing is not to be expected.  Change is the law of the world.  There is always a new winner.  Winter gives way to summer; night to day; storm brings peace to the moaning sea; all-powerful sleep releases what it has bound because it cannot reign indefinitely.

Greek mythological hero Ajax, in a speech from The Iliad by Homer.  Quoted from Athens: A Portrait of the City in Its Golden Age by Christian Meier

This quote struck me today.  It resonates with my study of ancient Stoicism by underscoring the benefit of not clinging to situations over which we don't have complete control.  Anything and everything can change - for better or worse - in an instant.
