I wouldn't be fully exploring the 19th century in America without reading a Mark Twain novel, my first. And although I wasn't sure if it was a book for kids or adults, I enjoyed it thoroughly, especially as it progressed.
It took me back to some of the very first books I read as a child... I'm not sure if they were Hardy Boys, or just something from that genre, but I remember the intense delight I experienced from such mysteries.
I'm sure I will read many more Twain books in the coming years. For now it's on to 19th century Japan and the Meiji emperor!
