Freakonomics

Just about done with Freakonomics by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner.  Not much to say except it was interesting.  Probably not a lot of useful information for me, except to remind myself that things aren't always what they seem.  Numbers can lie, and even when the numbers are correct they can be used in ways that distort the truth.

Come to think of it, I wonder if anyone actually audited the findings of the authors?  How do we know they are using the numbers truthfully?

Also, incentives (and disincentives) effect just about everything.  Realtors don't have the same exact interest as their home-selling clients, even though they get paid off of the home sales price.

I didn't read the entire book... I stopped before the appendix, which was added in this updated edition to include blog posts from the authors.  I suppose I just lost interest.  Plus, I'm really anxious to get back on track with my next read, the 8th volume in Will and Ariel Durant's Story of Civilization.

Onward and upward!
