Finally I've read a book by Dan Brown for which I've never seen the movie! The Lost Symbol was fun to read, for a few reasons.
- It greatly contrasts with the history books that take up most of my reading time. History books will always be my favorite, but it's great to read something completely different for a change of pace.
- It takes place in Washington DC, a city which I love, and a city which is very close to where I live.
- It involves a lot of history, from early American history to many historical figures from around the world.
On a side note, while reading the book I told my wife that I think I might want to join the Freemasons, which feature prominently in The Lost Symbol. While I'm really not serious about that, Dan Brown paints a picture of an organization that does intrigue me, at least his version of the Masons.
Lastly, I think I love these Dan Brown books because Robert Langdon, the protagonist, fascinates me. His interests greatly parallel my own. I would love to be Robert Langdon, except, of course, when he is in the midst of one of his many near-death experiences.
OK, back to the history books now.
