The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

Finally I've read a book by Dan Brown for which I've never seen the movie!  The Lost Symbol was fun to read, for a few reasons.

  1. It greatly contrasts with the history books that take up most of my reading time.  History books will always be my favorite, but it's great to read something completely different for a change of pace.
  2. It takes place in Washington DC, a city which I love, and a city which is very close to where I live.
  3. It involves a lot of history, from early American history to many historical figures from around the world.
On a side note, while reading the book I told my wife that I think I might want to join the Freemasons, which feature prominently in The Lost Symbol.  While I'm really not serious about that, Dan Brown paints a picture of an organization that does intrigue me, at least his version of the Masons.

Lastly, I think I love these Dan Brown books because Robert Langdon, the protagonist, fascinates me.  His interests greatly parallel my own.  I would love to be Robert Langdon, except, of course, when he is in the midst of one of his many near-death experiences.

OK, back to the history books now.
