The last few months I've been lazy about blogging on this site for a couple of reasons. One, most of the books I've read lately have been purely for work. I don't necessarily regard them as blog-worthy. And two, now that I author a real blog, also for work, I'm a little blogged out.
Having said that, I wanted to at least document these four books that I've read through over the last several weeks:
- Six Pixels of Separation by Mitch Joel
- Facebook Marketing - An Hour A Day by Chris Treadaway and Mari Smith
- Twitter Marketing - An Hour A Day by Hollis Thomases
- The Truth About Search Engine Marketing by Rebecca Lieb
Years ago I pretty much stopped reading marketing and business books. Given my recent philanthropic start-up, however, which at the moment is endeavoring to tackle the world of eCommerce, a little education was definitely in order.
All of the books have been helpful. Six Pixels was great from a strategic standpoint, while the other three dig down to more fundamentals. I'm struggling with Twitter. The book makes it seem so easy, but Twitter seems more suited to the instant-gratification needing, self-absorbed generation, whom, frankly, lack focus and the ability to accomplish long term goals. Oh well.
I've actually hired Rebecca Lieb, author of the last of the four books, to consult with GoneReading about our SEO strategy. She's incredibly smart, and I definitely plan to re-read her book.
Addendum, added July 17, 2011: Add ProBlogger by Darren Rowse & Chris Garrett to the list of books above.
